Mario has once again made the jump to the big screen with the premiere of the film "Super Mario Bros." Despite being one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time, his appearances in movies have been limited. This time around, he and his friends have received an A-list celebrity voice cast and a stunning animated film from the studio Illumination, known for their work on the "Minions" films.
Many people who grew up playing Mario games may be interested in the film but may not want to spend money on cinema tickets or purchasing a physical copy. Fortunately for Mario fans, historically Illumination's films have appeared on several streaming services after their theatrical release, including Netflix, so here's everything we know about when and where you can watch the new Mario movie. We'll update this post as soon as confirmed dates become available.
When does the Mario movie come to Netflix?
Although we do not have a confirmed date for when the "Super Mario Bros" movie will be available on Netflix, the owning company Illumination, Universal, has a deal with Netflix that allows their movies to appear on the streaming service no sooner than four months after appearing on Peacock.
We can look at other recent Illumination movies, such as "Minions: The Rise of Gru," as an example that gives us a possible release schedule. "The Rise of Gru" was exclusively shown on Peacock in September 2022, and then appeared on Netflix approximately seven months after its theatrical release. Based on this schedule, it is likely that "Super Mario Bros" will become available for streaming on Netflix sometime in October or November 2023.
Will The Super Mario Bros. Movie come to any other streaming services?
Similar to previous Illumination films such as "Minions: The Rise of Gru," the "Super Mario Bros" movie will be exclusively available on Peacock before other streaming services. The movie will be available to watch on Peacock on August 3rd, according to the official website.
The movie can be purchased in digital format prior to its availability on Peacock. You can do so through one of the links below.
