The Steam Deck is now used to control Star Wars droids, at least in Galaxy's Edge

The Steam Deck's remarkable features, which extend beyond being a powerful handheld gaming device to functioning as a capable desktop PC, should never be underestimated. Whether it involves playing top-tier PC games while on the move or serving as an all-in-one emulation machine, the device's potential knows no bounds. Now, it seems that the Valve handheld is even capable of controlling real-life droids at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in Disney World theme park.

The Steam Deck is recognized as one of the top PC gaming handhelds available, and although there have been rumors circulating about a potential update, the recent finding at Disney World came as quite a surprise. The footage, captured at Galaxy's Edge in Disney World, was shared on Twitter by Disney Dan, a YouTuber renowned for covering various aspects related to Disney and its theme parks.

In the brief video, droids inspired by BD-1, the beloved robotic companion from the Star Wars Jedi game series, can be observed scurrying around the theme park, providing entertainment for the guests. While the droids themselves are already quite impressive, the video clip unveiled that the cast members responsible for controlling them were, in fact, utilizing the Steam Deck for this purpose.

The mentioned video clip was subsequently shared again by none other than Pierre-Loup Griffais from Valve, who promptly noticed the handheld device they themselves had worked on, and commented, "I see a Steam Deck there at the end..."

Towards the conclusion of the video, with careful attention, one can observe the Steam Deck being held by the cast member, specifically to operate the animatronic droids. Subsequently, photos of multiple Steam Decks being utilized by other cast members were shared on social media, revealing that they had all been customized to seamlessly blend with the immersive Star Wars role-playing experience offered at Galaxy's Edge.

Although we are unaware of the specific software and accessories employed by Disney cast members to control the droids, the fact that the Steam Deck can be utilized for such purposes is undeniably an impressive achievement. While other competitors have entered the realm of PC gaming handhelds, such as the ASUS ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go, this video demonstrates that the Steam Deck's capabilities should never be underestimated.
