The choice in the "Starfield Entangled" mission is which universe to save

The choice of "Starfield Entangled" is tied to preserving one of two realities: one with the intact Nishina base and the other with a base engulfed in chaos and occupied by Raphael. The choice is clear: which of the two realities will you sacrifice to save the other? The good reality or the bad one? In reality, you don't necessarily have to choose one of them, as there is a secret third option - to save everyone and both realities in one fell swoop. I will explain the outcomes of all three options below, as well as the method by which you can save everyone in each reality (except for the scorpions) in this "Starfield Entangled" mission guide and the choice you will make at the end.

Who should you choose to save in the Starfield mission Entangled?

The Starfield Entangled choice and which universe to save

The choice in the "Starfield Entangled" mission is presented quite clearly: there are currently two realities colliding at the Nishina base. One reality has everyone, except for the unfortunate Raphael, perishing in an accident, while the other reality has everyone, except for Raphael, feeling well. You need to choose which of the two realities to save, although, as mentioned earlier, there are three options for the choice.

  • Save Rafael's universe by collapsing Director Patel and the Nishina base's universe
  • Save Director Patel and the Nishina base's universe by collapsing Rafael's universe
  • (Secret method/best choice) Save both universes by calibrating the probe correctly

To achieve either of the first two outcomes is quite straightforward, as the "Entangled" mission explains how to do it: enter either of the two realities you want to save using the anomalies, then approach all the designated switches and "Disable Power Lockdown" (while battling Cataxi aliens or robots along the way).

Then proceed to the designated emergency shutdown control and activate it to save that particular reality and condemn the other (although it is unclear whether the other universe/reality is truly doomed or if it simply becomes a separate universe, but for all practical purposes, you will no longer be able to see it).

The rewards for each universe vary, and we have described them below:

  • Saving Rafael
    • Indicite Wafer
    • Comm Relay (2)
    • Vytinium (4)
    • Tasine (5)
    • Credits (varies)
    • Rafael will later be hireable as Starfield crew from New Atlantis
  • Saving Director Patel and Nishina base
    • Incendiary Experimental Nishina Spacesuit (legendary)
    • Reactive Experimental Nishina Helmet (legendary)
    • Credits (varies)
  • Save everybody in both realities
    • Incendiary Experimental Nishina Spacesuit (legendary)
    • Reactive Experimental Nishina Helmet (legendary)
    • Credits (varies, but usually higher than other results)
    • Rafael will later be hireable as crew from New Atlantis

Unless you have a particular hankering for highly specific crafting materials, it's pretty clear that both narratively and financially, saving both realities is the way to go. But… how do you actually do that?

How to save everyone in Entangled

The Starfield Entangled choice and which universe to

In the "primary" intact universe, you will be able to find Raphael's body in the bottom-left corner of the lower level, beneath the laboratory. On his body, you will discover a tablet with calibration protocol data that will guide you on how to save everyone by initiating a calibration test in both universes.

The Starfield Entangled choice and which universe

To conduct this test, you will need to "demagnetize" the switches in both universes. To do this, go to the laboratory using the staircase near Raphael's body, and on the computer, you will find a series of options. The demagnetization option will list the power-lock switches that require demagnetization. To accomplish this, you need to turn on and off each of the listed switches in both universes – each universe will have its own set of switches.

Once you demagnetize all the switches in both universes, you will be able to activate the "Frequency Calibration" option. To do this, you will need to select a frequency in both universes to create a "stable" input wave.

For me, the correct frequency calibration in the "Entangled" mission was as follows:

  • Ruined universe - 40Hz
  • 'Main' universe - 24Hz

Once you correctly set both frequencies, you need to activate the main calibration control in both universes, each of which is located to the left of the Artifact. You don't need to choose an option here, as it will merge both universes into a single reality.

The Starfield Entangled choice and which

As mentioned earlier, you and the living Raphael will wake up in a world where no one has died and receive the following rewards:

  • 23000 credits
  • Incendiary Advanced Experimental Spacesuit
  • Reactive Advanced Experimental Helmet
The Starfield Entangled choice and

After some time to contemplate his place in the failed probability of the incorrect universe, Raphael will eventually become available for hire as an engineer on your team. You will be able to find him later in Viewport at New Atlantis on Jamison.
