Pokemon Presents: Managing Expectations and the Art of Realistic Predictions

Attention, Pokemon trainers! The highly anticipated Pokemon Presents event is just around the corner, set to take place on February 27th, the legendary Pokemon Day. As excitement builds up and fans worldwide eagerly make their predictions and wishlists, it's important to take a step back and manage our expectations. Trust me, as a seasoned Pokemon fan, I've witnessed this rollercoaster ride before. So buckle up, trainers, and let's embark on an amusing journey of realistic predictions and the art of staying sane in the face of wild speculations.

The Perils of Overhyping:
Every year, the Pokemon fandom works itself into a frenzy of anticipation. We dream up the perfect Pokemon game, be it Legends: Celebi or a remake of Pokemon XD, or even a nostalgic port of the original first-generation games to the Switch. But here's the reality check: Nintendo can't cater to every fan's desires. And even if they released your dream game, the execution might not live up to your lofty expectations, as recent releases have shown.

The OG Music Trap:
Now, let's address the classic music in the trailer. I've already seen people predicting Gen 1 ports because of that snippet. Yes, we've been asking for it for years, but let's not jump to conclusions. Just because they used some nostalgic tunes doesn't mean Game Freak has suddenly had a change of heart. It's the anniversary of the original Pokemon games, so it's only natural to tap into that nostalgic vibe. Don't let a few musical notes send your expectations skyrocketing.

An Alternative Approach:
Trainers, here's a little secret: I've mastered the art of setting my expectations for Pokemon announcements at rock bottom. Why, you ask? Well, when you expect the bare minimum, anything they reveal will exceed your expectations. So, this year, I'm predicting a bundle repackaging of Scarlet & Violet with an eye-watering price tag of £150, and as a bonus, you get an exclusive robot Mew. Okay, maybe that's asking for too much, but you get the idea.

Realism vs. Wishful Thinking:
While I'd love Legends: Celebi to become a reality and have been shamelessly mentioning it in every article, I have to be realistic. Hoping for its announcement at every Pokemon Presents is a recipe for disappointment. Instead, I've set my bar on the floor by expecting an ILCA Black & White remake, much in line with the underwhelming Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. That way, I'm prepared for more disappointment, but hey, if they surprise us with something better, I'll gladly eat my words.

Padding the News:
Of course, there'll be other tidbits of news to keep us entertained. A Pokemon Go update, perhaps a new hat for Pikachu, some Cafe Mix goodies, updates on the anime or Concierge episodes—those are the extras. But let's be honest, we're all here for the Switch games. Gen 10 is still a distant dream, and Scarlet & Violet is likely to receive more Tera Raids. Brace yourselves for the main event!

The Ultimate Dream:
In the realm of dreams, the best-case scenario would be a jaw-dropping reveal of a new Switch game that looks absolutely stunning. Whether it's a remake, a Legends game, or even Gen 10, if it manages to achieve a visual style akin to Breath of the Wild or a leap towards near-realism, Pokemon will have accomplished the impossible. But let's keep our feet on the ground, trainers. Such miracles are rare, so let's not set ourselves up for disappointment.

A Fun-filled Pokemon Presents:
In conclusion, I genuinely hope the Pokemon Presents event turns out to be a blast. I hope it offers more than an ILCA remake. However, I don't expect anything beyond that. It's healthier for all of us to maintain a dose of realism and enjoy the surprises as they come. So, trainers, strap on your Poke-belts, hold onto your hats, and get ready to experience the excitement while keeping those expectations in check. May your Pokemon journey be filled with fun and delightful surprises!
