Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - A Silly Parody and a Nod to Pokemon

In the sprawling world of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, there's a plethora of content to explore, including captivating side activities that can steal players' attention for hours on end, even without touching the main story. One such amusing diversion is the Sujimon League, a hilarious parody of the beloved Pokemon franchise, where players embark on an adventure to collect and battle unique creatures. But the Pokemon references in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth don't stop there. Another mini-game, inspired by a classic Pokemon spin-off, awaits players who seek additional surprises in this wacky RPG.

Unveiling the Sujimon League:
The Sujimon League in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a treasure trove of clever nods and references to Pokemon. When players first encounter the Sujimon Sensei, he exclaims that Hawaii is the land of the sun and the moon, an obvious hat-tip to Pokemon Sun and Moon's Alola Region, which draws inspiration from Hawaii. As the game progresses, players encounter the Sujimon Sensei once more in Hawaii, where further references to the Pokemon series await. But the fun doesn't stop there, as one more unmistakable Pokemon allusion awaits players who hop aboard the trolley.

A Snapshot of Sicko Snap:
Once players reach Chapter 3 and gain free reign over the map, an intriguing substory can be stumbled upon while riding Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's trolley near the beach. On this trolley ride, players meet George Kuroki, who introduces them to the art of Sicko Snap. This mini-game requires players to photograph sickos in questionable outfits around Hawaii, aiding the local police department. The premise is simple: players must snap photos of these eccentric individuals as the trolley moves along its route, bearing a striking resemblance to the classic Pokemon spin-off game, Pokemon Snap.

Picture-Perfect Gameplay:
Sicko Snap functions as an on-rails shooter, with players aiming to capture the best shots of sickos as they come into view. Just like in Pokemon Snap, the photo's composition is crucial, with larger subjects positioned at the center earning higher scores. Sicko Snap offers various difficulty levels, allowing players to earn Snap Points, which can be used to purchase unique items in Dondoko Island, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's Animal Crossing-inspired mini-game.

A Snapshot of Opportunity:
While Sicko Snap is an unmistakable homage to Pokemon Snap, it lacks the depth found in the Sujimon League. Yet, there is potential for improvement by drawing inspiration from the beloved Pokemon spin-off. In Pokemon Snap, players can throw items to engage critters and elicit specific reactions, enhancing the quality of their photographs. Sicko Snap could have implemented a similar mechanic, enabling players to toss food or money from the trolley to lure out rarer sickos for better shots. This addition would have added depth to the mini-game, particularly at higher difficulties, where timing is critical in capturing that perfect shot.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a whimsical RPG that pays homage to the iconic Pokemon franchise through its amusing side activities. The Sujimon League offers a clever parody of Pokemon, while Sicko Snap delivers a delightful nod to Pokemon Snap. Although Sicko Snap could have benefited from further inspiration from its source material, it still provides an entertaining diversion for players to enjoy. As fans journey through the vibrant world of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, they'll encounter a myriad of surprises and humorous references, making the game a delightful experience for both Pokemon enthusiasts and RPG fans alike.
