Destiny 2: Riven's Wishes - A Wishful Grind or a Charming Chore?

Destiny 2, the once-exemplary live-service title, has been on a bumpy road to recovery. With cracks appearing in the game's story and concerns about various aspects, the community started to doubt Bungie's commitment. While some recent changes have shown that Bungie is listening to players, the introduction of Riven's Wishes in the Season of the Wish has left players with mixed feelings. Let's dive into the ups and downs of Destiny 2's latest endgame grind and see if these wishes fulfill our desires or turn into a dreaded chore.

The Ever-Evolving Gameplay:
Destiny 2's gameplay has always been subject to the flavor of the month builds and Exotics. Over the years, it has steadily evolved, with changes being made to the gameplay loop and new content introduced for PvP. The endgame content has found a decent enough space, especially with the release of new Dungeons and Raids each season. However, some activities and locations have fallen behind, either due to outdated mechanics or an unsatisfying effort-reward ratio.

The Enigma of Riven's Wishes:
Enter Riven's Wishes, the weekly account-wide missions that promise great rewards but come with a catch. Players are tasked with completing objectives that often revolve around outdated activities, such as Heroic Events in the Dreaming City. While the rewards from these missions are enticing, the requirements themselves can feel like a tedious grind, forcing players to engage in some of the least-liked or oldest content in the game.

Unveiling the Weekly "Wishes":
Let's take a look at the current selection of weekly activities, which have surfaced online:

  • Defeat 1600 combatants in Legend or Master Lost Sectors.
  • Complete the Blind Well multiple times.
  • Achieve a high score in Nightfall: The Ordeal.
  • Participate in Heroic Events in the Dreaming City.

The Dilemma of Rewards:
While the rewards, such as the ability to choose one of Last Wish's red-border weapons, may seem tempting, the requirements feel lackluster compared to the challenge of completing a five-year-old Raid. Tasking players with repetitive activities or grinding for combatant kills in Lost Sectors does little to enhance the overall experience. Riven's Wishes had the potential to be a player-friendly endeavor, but it falls short of its promise.

A Wishful Grind or a Charming Chore?
The fate of Riven's Wishes hangs in the balance. It offers highly anticipated rewards, like event-exclusive Mementos, but at the cost of engaging in dated and repetitive tasks. The community finds itself torn between the allure of loot and the weariness of grinding through uninspired content. As players weigh the pros and cons, the question remains: Are these wishes truly worth pursuing, or are they destined to become a monotonous chore?

Looking Ahead:
Destiny 2 continues to evolve, and Bungie's commitment to listening to player feedback is commendable. As the game moves forward, we hope to see adjustments that strike a better balance between rewarding and engaging gameplay. The Final Shape looms on the horizon, and with it, the potential for new adventures and challenges. Destiny 2's journey is far from over, and only time will tell if our wishes for a captivating and fulfilling experience will be granted.

Destiny 2's Riven's Wishes present a conundrum for players. While the rewards hold promise, the requirements often lead to repetitive and outdated activities. The game's ever-evolving nature suggests that improvements are possible, and as Bungie continues to listen to player feedback, we can hope for a more player-friendly approach in the future. Destiny 2 remains a captivating online FPS, blending single-player and multiplayer content, and its dedicated following eagerly awaits the next chapter in this intriguing saga.
