Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 offers a wide selection of assault rifles, with players having access to more than a dozen options. Although many assault rifles may appear similar initially, the behavior of each weapon can vary significantly once attachments and weapon tuning come into play. In the case of the FR Avancer, this particular weapon has the potential to become either a formidable mid-range powerhouse or a formidable weapon for long-range duels, depending on your preferred loadout and customization choices.
The FR Avancer, drawing inspiration from the FAMAS F1 FÉLIN, is a bullpup assault rifle that boasts an exceptionally high rate of fire for its class, minimal recoil, and well-defined iron sights. In this guide, we will explore the methods to unlock the FR Avancer in MW2 and present various attachment builds that excel in both multiplayer and Warzone gameplay.
How To Unlock The FR Avancer

Players who missed out on acquiring the FR Avancer during Season 5 now have the opportunity to obtain this weapon by achieving 35 headshot kills on Operators. This challenge keeps track of your kills in MW2 multiplayer, Warzone, and DMZ modes; kills against AI opponents are not counted. Extracting the FR Avancer from a DMZ match will also unlock it for use in multiplayer and Warzone.
The FR Avancer is a part of the distinctive Feret platform, which comprises 20 weapon levels. As you progress through these levels, you will unlock exclusive attachments specific to this weapon, including grips, stocks, and barrels. Additionally, the FR Avancer shares optic, underbarrel, laser, muzzle, and 5.56 NATO ammo attachments with other weapons.
Stealth FR Avancer Build

Laser | FSS OLE-V Laser | Tune for sprint to fire and ADS speeds |
Muzzle | Echoline GS-X | Tune for ADS speed |
Underbarrel | FTAC Ripper 56 | Tune for ADS speed |
Magazine | 45 Round Mag | N/A |
Rear Grip | SA Ion | Tune for ADS and sprint to fire speeds |
The FR Avancer is an exceptional weapon for mid-range engagements, and with a few adjustments, it can perfectly suit an aggressive playstyle. That's why we have chosen recoil reduction and increased ADS speed attachments for this setup. To begin, we recommend equipping the Echoline GS-X suppressor, which effectively dampens the sound of each shot and pairs well with the Ghost perk for stealthy gameplay. For optimal performance, the FSS OLE-V Laser is an ideal choice as it enhances aiming stability, ADS speed, and sprint-to-fire time. However, please note that it emits a visible laser, so exercise caution when pre-aiming corners. If you frequently play modes like Search and Destroy where staying covert is crucial, you can consider using an invisible laser attachment instead.
Regarding the remaining attachments, we opt for a 45 Round Magazine to address the FR Avancer's rather inadequate base magazine size of 25. To control the weapon's recoil, we employ the FTAC Ripper 56 attachment, which significantly reduces overall recoil and enhances aiming stability. This allows us to utilize the SA Ion grip without experiencing any noticeable drawbacks, resulting in optimal recoil control within a range of up to 30 meters. However, engagements beyond 50 meters can prove more challenging due to the Avancer's horizontal recoil, so it's essential to be mindful of your distance in such scenarios.
Loadout Recommendations
Loadout | |
Secondary | Preference |
Lethal | Throwing Knife |
Tactical | Stim |
Field Upgrade | Dead Silence |
Base Perks | Tracker, Double Time |
Bonus Perk | Fast Hands or Cold-Blooded |
Ultimate Perk | Ghost |
The FR Avancer is a superb choice for stealth-oriented loadouts, especially with this particular build that incorporates a suppressor and boasts low recoil. By equipping the Ghost perk, you can effectively evade enemy UAV detection, granting you the ability to flank opponents safely across various game modes. In more challenging lobbies where Ghost may not be sufficient, utilizing the Dead Silence Field Upgrade will help muffle your footsteps, facilitating aggressive flanking maneuvers. As for the remaining perks, Tracker is advantageous for concealing kill skulls, while Cold-Blooded provides protection against AI-controlled killstreaks. Alternatively, for players adopting a more aggressive playstyle, Fast Hands can be a viable perk option. The choice of additional gear is subjective, although Throwing Knives and Stims make for reliable equipment choices.
Warzone FR Avancer Build
FR Avancer Build | ||
Barrel | 600mm FR Longbore | Do not tune |
Muzzle | Komodo Heavy | Tune for ADS speed |
Underbarrel | FTAC Ripper 56 | Tune for ADS speed and aim idle stability |
Magazine | 45 Round Mag | N/A |
Rear Grip | SA Ion | Tune for ADS speed and aim idle stability |
This FR Avancer build is optimized for Warzone and Ground War, prioritizing accuracy over speed. The 600mm FR Longbore barrel is crucial in this setup as it reduces overall recoil while significantly extending the effective range of the FR Avancer. To further enhance recoil control, we recommend using the Komodo Heavy muzzle, which effectively eliminates the weapon's horizontal recoil, making it much easier to handle. Adding the FTAC Ripper 56 underbarrel and SA Ion grip helps to further stabilize the weapon's vertical recoil. By equipping a 45 Round Mag, the FR Avancer exhibits minimal movement when engaging distant targets.
All of these attachments have a trade-off, as they reduce the ADS (Aim Down Sight) speed, making it challenging to engage enemies in close quarters. It is advisable to avoid using SMGs and shotguns whenever possible. However, when engaging opponents at assault rifle ranges, the FR Avancer excels and has a high chance of winning gunfights, especially if you can consistently land upper torso shots.
Loadout Recommendations
Loadout | |
Secondary | Preference |
Lethal | Throwing Knife |
Tactical | Stim |
Field Upgrade | Dead Silence |
Base Perks | Tracker, Double Time |
Bonus Perk | Fast Hands or Cold-Blooded |
Ultimate Perk | Ghost |
We will be suggesting the same loadout as the previous attachment build, prioritizing stealth perks such as Ghost and Tracker to avoid being aggressively pushed by other players. It's worth noting that this weapon does not have a suppressor attached, but you have the option to replace the Komodo Heavy barrel with any suppressor if you don't mind dealing with the additional horizontal recoil it brings. The choice of other perks and gear is subjective, although we strongly recommend using Fast Hands with this weapon, as it has a slower reload time when equipped with larger magazines.
